This is an Ampelmann. The Ampelmännchen (plural, “Little traffic light men”) is the design of most crosswalk signals in the former DDR and specifically east Berlin. They look significantly different than most western designs and is one of the few remnants of DDR every-day life who survived the fall of the wall. They are easily recognizable in the former east-german half of Berlin.
