Photos and words by Petter Senften

October Sunset

I was taking a walk a few days ago near the river, the sun was setting. I snapped this photo. The colors are a little more vibrant in the picture than in real life, but I write that off as artistic license. The one thing I’ve wondered several times though is why I shot this photo in portrait rather than landscape-tilt. It must have made perfect sense then and there, but now I’m left wondering.

That looks rather nice, I can’t see a reason why portrait mode would be a bad thing. That negative space has an alluring effect in my mind. Also, it makes it stand out from the standard landscape mode picture. Makes total sense to me!

It’s very possible that I was thinking precisely that when I shot it. We’ll never know! 🙂
